Thompson - Principal
Experience:
State Roads & Traffic Authorities (1965 1989)
- Senior employee of the Department of Motor Transport, Main
Roads and the Roads & Traffic Authority;
- Investigation of traffic management facilities; and
- Actively involved in the assessment and implementation of
traffic management strategies and local area traffic
management schemes in the Sydney regional including
accident assessment treatments.
Particular
expertise and management skills have been developed
whilst employed as:
- Traffic Manager Sydney Western
Regional of Department of Main Roads and Roads &
Traffic Authority (1976 1989), responsible for traffic
operations Western Sydney - Chairman, Sydney Regional
Development /Advisory Committee responsible for
assessment of traffic generating developments and
provision of advice to local government (1985 1989); and
- Member of various working parties and technical committees
formed for the evaluation of traffic planning
projects.
Principal of Rhodes Thompson Associates
(1989 2001) and Thompson Stanbury Associates from 2001
- present. Projects undertaken in private practice
include:
- Traffic impact reports for private
industry in respect of various land use developments
- Road safety audits for Traffic Authority and Local
Government - Major route development assessments for
the Roads & Traffic Authority - Local
area traffic management studies for Local Government
- Specialist traffic signal designer for the Roads & Traffic
Authority, Local Government and private industry including
computer modelling of intersection geometry and related
traffic flow - Provision of expert advice on traffic
signal construction and project management of traffic
system related works
Concurrently Mr Thompson has
been a principal of a pre-qualified traffic signal
contractor with the Roads & Traffic Authority since
1989. In this time, he has been involved in the design and
construction of traffic control systems throughout New South
Wales. He has gained an extensive knowledge of both
traffic signals with particular emphasis on the traffic
management aspect of traffic control systems as well as
the detail of traffic signal
installations.
Qualifications:
Traffic Planning and Control University of New South Wales;
and Associate Diploma in Civil Engineering or
equivalent (engineering Surveying).

Member of the
Australian Institute of Traffic Planning and
Management.

Morgan Stanbury Transport
Engineer
Morgan joined the Practice in 2000 after
completing a degree in Environmental Engineering at the
University of New South Wales graduating with Honours. Morgan
undertook a major in Transport Engineering and prepared his
Honours thesis on a comparative analysis of several
computer based intersection modelling programs including
INTANAL and SIDRA.
Since being engaged in the transport
planning industry, he has also been involved in the use of
network and linear signal control programs such as SCATES. He
therefore has an extensive experience in the calculation of
optimum phasing design, phase splits and cycle lengths
for linear and network co-ordinated traffic signal
systems.
Whilst working at Thompson Stanbury
Associates, Morgan has undertaken numerous land use traffic
impact projects across a wide range of development categories. He
has also been involved in extensive local area traffic
management projects within both urban and rural
contexts. These projects have required significant
research and application of information to resolve
issues of traffic efficiency, access arrangements, internal
circulation and pedestrian / cyclist accessibility and safety.
Morgan has also developed experience in assessing matters
of land and intersection treatment design.
Morgan has an accreditation as a Road
Safety Auditor and has been a member of several audit teams
critically analysing all stages of route development from design
through to audits of existing roads on behalf of
government and the private sector.
Morgan has specialist skills within AutoCAD
and is capable of preparing concept designs and traffic
control / management plans including intersection control
and route development plans.
Brent
Thompson Town Planner
Brent joined the
Practice in 1998 as a junior transport planner whilst
completing his undergraduate Town Planning degree at the
University of New South Wales which he completed in 2001 with
Honours. Since graduating, Brent has been employed by Holroyd
City Council as a Development Assessment Officer from
2001 2003 and then in Strategic Planning from 2003
2004.
During his time at Holroyd City Council,
Brent obtained an understanding of the workings of Local
Government and has obtained a good working knowledge of
the NSW Planning System, including the mechanisms of
local environmental plans and development control plans.
As a Strategic Planner, Brent was involved in the preparation
of a Section 94 Plan for a large release area in Greystanes
during which, he has gained extensive experience and
knowledge with regard to the procedures of Developer
contributions and Section 94 Plans.
During his
time at Holroyd City Council, Brent continued to work
part time for this Practice assisting in the undertaking of numerous
transport planning projects and planning assessments of
various land-use developments primarily on behalf of
private developers.
